Fiery: Flambéed Fruits
Flambéed fruits are impressive not only when served but also during preparation. If there is enough space and all flammable items are out of reach, you can begin: Suitable options include pears poached in red wine, stewed plums, or apple slices sautéed in a little butter with spices. To flambé, pour a small glass of high-proof alcohol (at least 40% ABV) over the fruits, ignite with a long match, and wait until the flame extinguishes. Well-suited types of alcohol include cognac, whiskey, or fruit liqueur mixed with brandy.
Berry: Blueberry Compote
Sweet blueberries are also a delightful waffle topping. Instead of fresh berries, this version can also be wonderfully prepared with frozen blueberries or a berry mix. Cooked with water, sugar, and a pinch of vanilla, a heavenly compote is quickly conjured onto the plate. If desired, garnish the waffles with freshly grated orange zest and mint.
Chocolatey: Dark Chocolate and Fig Jam
Chocoholics love waffles because the honeycomb structure naturally holds a lot of chocolate. Absolutely delicious: melted dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa content, served with a dollop of fig jam. Chopped pistachios add the finishing touch to the waffle recipe. A highlight not just in terms of color!
