Milk and similar liquids can rise and foam when boiled. Milk pots are the ideal choice to counteract this and heat smaller quantities without boiling over. This is safer than using a conventional pot.

Why does milk boil over?

Heating milk follows a specific pattern: Initially, nothing seems to happen, until within a few seconds it rises to the edge of the pot – and sometimes even beyond. This occurs because the proteins coagulate during the heating process and form a skin on the surface. The steam bubbles rising due to the increasing temperature cannot escape, so the milk is forced upwards and eventually boils over.
